The last couple of years have seen an amazing boom in the real estate industry and the market in our area has been on fire!
Strong buyer demand has seen inventory plunge to a 40-year low, while bidding wars have reached all-time highs. Since the beginning of 2020, U.S. median home list prices on realtor.com are up 27%—adding $9.1 trillion to the total value of the U.S. housing market in 2021 alone. Rates have remained low and sellers have been able to capitalize on low rates, huge buyer demand, and very low inventory – making it a phenomenal seller’s market in the last two years.
2022 will see a bit of a different market as the Fed will be raising rates a few times this year to combat inflation. This will no doubt slow down buyer demand and supply will increase in 2022. The market will remain strong but it is forecasted to normalize somewhat in 2022. After the buying frenzy of the last two years, it will be refreshing to see a more normalized real estate market in Northern Bergen County with more inventory and more choices for qualified buyers moving to our area from NYC and surrounding areas.
The Spring market starts right after Super Bowl Sunday and is right around the corner. Now is truly the perfect time to get top dollar if you’re looking to sell your home in 2022.
