4 Tips for Improving Your Bedroom

4 Tips for Improving Your Bedroom

1) Declutter
Bedrooms should be neat and clean to assist a clear mind, but often they become a repository for junk you do not need.  There is usually two main sources of clutter in a bedroom – the nightstand and the closet.  Take some time to clear these areas.  Nightstands tend to get crowded with spare change, jewelry, books, magazines, water glasses, and other things that should be put away in their proper spot to keep an orderly and serene room.

The bedroom closet can also be disastrous if you tend to hoard old clothes you don’t wear.  The general unwritten rule of clothing is if you have not worn it in an entire year, it is time to throw it out or donate it.  Another tip to create more space and organize your closet is to do seasonal rotations of your clothes.  Keep a box of winter jackets or bathing suits in storage until the weather starts to change to avoid clogging your closet.

2) Painting, Mirrors, and Wall Art
One way to give your bedroom a makeover is a fresh painting.  Most interior designers recommend light colors for a bedroom, such as pastels or a neutral tan color.  Vibrant colors tend to stimulate your brain instead of relaxing it, and dark colors usually make a room appear smaller.  However, these colors can be used as an accent in the room to spruce things up.

Adding a large, decorative mirror to your bedroom can also help lighten the room up and give the illusion or more space.  Simple wall art, such as framed photos or paintings, can help make a bedroom cozier and more personal.

3) Optimize Your Spacebedroom-lcdtv-1214696.jpg
We have already mentioned a couple tips to decluttering your bedroom, and there are several other ways to maximize your space if you have a small bedroom.  One way to avoid a cramped bedroom is to remove any unnecessary furniture that is taking up space.  For instance, perhaps you have a nightstand just used for a TV or a clunky light.  Considering mounting the TV or opting for drop lighting so you can remove the furniture used for holding them.

Another tip for optimizing space is to add wall shelving.  These shelves can help keep things off the ground and even replace end tables by holding books, an alarm clock, or your phone.  Utilizing storage under the bed can be useful for clearing space as well, and try decorative baskets or boxes for some extra storage.

4) Add an Accent

There are many effective ways to add a striking accent in a bedroom, no matter the size of the room.  One suggestion is adding a contemporary rug to the room that contrasts the color scheme of your linens.  Another idea is adding a piece of modern art or getting an exaggerated headboard for your bed.
