This fantastic article by the New York Times provides a guide to the most challenging aspects of buying a home.  It breaks the process down into steps, and then sub-steps to make each task less daunting.  First, it goes through the decision to buy a home and how to make that decision.  Next is figuring out how much you can afford and how to organize your finances, which is a crucial step that should be completed early in the home-buying process.  Once a budget is set, it is time to start searching for a home.  This can often be overwhelming or discouraging if you do not find what you were expecting right away, but remember that the search for a home can be a very lengthy process and should not be rushed.
